The Role
Reporting to and working closely with the Head of Human Resources, the State WHS Manager will play a key role in developing and implementing workplace health and safety (WHS) strategies that enhance workforce productivity and contribute to business profitability. In collaboration with the HR team and broader organisation, the State WHS Manager will embed key people management processes within the
Victorian operations of Australian Clinical Labs.
Responsibilities are including but not limited to:
WHS Management & Documentation
- Maintain and update WHS policies, procedures, and processes for accessibility.
- Develop and manage a compliant Safety Management System aligned with legislative standards.
- Conduct periodic reviews and identify improvement opportunities in WHS procedures.
- Provide training and coaching on Hazard Identification and Incident Reporting processes.
- Analyse injury and claims data to identify trends and enhance prevention strategies.
- Stay informed on legislative changes, industry best practices, and emerging safety trends.
Workplace Training & Engagement
- Educate employees and management on WHS tools to empower proactive safety management.
- Advise line managers on WHS strategies while minimising operational disruption.
- Promote early identification and mitigation of workplace hazards.
- Deliver training programs tailored to organisational needs.
Safety Culture Leadership
- Coach employees and foster a strong safety culture across the organisation.
- Collaborate with stakeholders in constructing the Clinical Labs WHS strategy .
- Ensure organisational compliance with WHS and Workers Compensation legislation.
Employee Recognition & Motivation
- Reinforce positive behaviours through recognition and reward initiatives.
- Influence internal and external stakeholders to drive improvements in WHS outcomes.
- Serve as a role model in demonstrating expected values and behaviours.
Strategic WHS Management
- Drive continuous improvement in WHS processes and policies.
- Elevate the profile of WHS within the organisation to enhance engagement.
- Partner with the Executive team to ensure accountability for workplace safety.
- Manage and coach the WHS Advisor .
- Assist in the provision of coaching and development to the National Injury Management Lead.
This candidate will need to be an engaging individual, able to build relationships across the business and act as a true WHS advisor and business partner.
Your Profile
This is a hands-on role requiring the successful candidate to provide WHS coaching and direction to managers and staff in an inspiring manner aligned with organisational vision and values. You will have a goal-oriented approach with a strong commitment to performance and continuous improvement. You must also be able to demonstrate integrity, respect, and professionalism at all times, in accordance with the organisation’s core values. In addition to strong negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships you will have the ability to identify solutions proactively, maintaining high-quality standards and continuous improvement focus.
Ideally from an ASX listed company or major healthcare provider you will have a strong understanding of all facets of WHS management including an operational and strategic focus across all aspects of the business. Ideally you will be tertiary qualified in WHS Management or in a related field and have sound knowledge of WHS and Workers compensation legislation. Some Proficiency in Safety Management Systems and Hazard Management Processes is desirable.
This role is Melbourne based, but from time to time you may be required to advise on WHS matters across other States in Australia.
