The Role
Reporting to and working closely with the Chief Operating Officer, the National Facilities Development Manager is a newly created role responsible for leading the planning, design and delivery of capital works projects across a national footprint. You will be required from time to time to travel to Sydney and other key ACL hubs around the country.
This role will play a critical part in shaping future-ready laboratory and clinical environments that meet regulatory requirements, support operational efficiency, and enable ongoing business growth. You will oversee major builds, refurbishments, relocations, and strategic infrastructure initiatives while ensuring alignment with clinical and commercial objectives.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Leading the end-to-end delivery of capital works projects including laboratories, collection centres, and specialist clinical facilities
- Managing feasibility studies, business cases, planning approvals, and tender processes
- Overseeing architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget
- Embedding best practice compliance with healthcare standards, building codes, OH&S, and infection control requirements
- Partnering with clinicians, scientists, and operational stakeholders to ensure facilities are fit-for-purpose
- Contributing to national facilities strategy including standardisation, optimisation, and cost efficiency initiatives
- Driving sustainability outcomes including energy efficiency, waste reduction, and renewable energy programs
- Supporting innovation through the integration of digital health technologies, automation, and future-focused laboratory design
- Managing risk across all stages of project delivery, ensuring patient safety and business continuity
- Providing regular reporting and updates to executive stakeholders
This role offers the opportunity to lead several high-profile initiatives, including new laboratory developments, relocation projects, and “Lab of the Future” programs.
Your Profile
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a candidate who can operate both strategically and operationally. You will bring a strong track record in delivering complex, large-scale infrastructure projects within regulated environments.
You will be an experienced facilities, construction, or project management professional with a proactive and solutions-focused approach. You will be comfortable navigating complex stakeholder environments and balancing competing priorities across a national portfolio.
Candidates may come from a range of backgrounds including:
- Pathology or diagnostic laboratory environments
- Healthcare or hospital infrastructure delivery
- Regulated manufacturing sectors such as pharmaceuticals, food production, or similar
- Major capital works or infrastructure projects within complex organisations
You will demonstrate:
- Strong project management and organisational capability
- Commercial acumen with experience managing significant capital budgets
- Deep understanding of compliance, risk, and regulatory requirements
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- The ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and external partners
This role will be based in Melbourne but involve travel from time to time to lead projects in other States.
