Anatomical Pathologist

Our client — a leading pathology services provider — is seeking an Anatomical Pathologist to join its Christchurch laboratory. The Role
You will take responsibility for overseeing key operational laboratory activities, including:
- Coordinating and delivering scientific and technical training across the laboratory team.
- Continuously reviewing and developing laboratory practices, and driving continuous process improvement.
- Ensuring adherence to operational standards, procedures, and quality frameworks.
- Contributing a broad range of diagnostic skills relevant to the laboratory.
- Investigating and resolving general and complex issues within the laboratory environment.
About You
- Fully registered Medical Practitioner — Medical Council of New Zealand registration, or current AMC/AHPRA registration with eligibility to register in New Zealand.
- Minimum 2 years' full-time clinical experience post-graduation (MBBS or equivalent).
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience delivering pathology services, with proficiency across Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems, Quality Control Systems, and Microsoft Office.
- A sound basic knowledge of internal medicine and its clinical practices, and a strong grasp of the ethics of medical practice.
- Customer-focused, with strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills — comfortable engaging with patients, relatives, clinicians, and laboratory staff, and confident in report writing and statistical evaluation of scientific data.
- Proven initiative, problem-solving, and analytical ability, with the capacity to manage competing priorities and deliver to deadline — both autonomously and within a team.
- Sound understanding of legislation, policies, and requirements impacting the laboratory environment, including quality improvement, work health and safety, privacy, and workplace diversity.
- Willingness to undertake out-of-hours shift duties in line with safe-hours provisions, and a demonstrated commitment to ongoing formal and self-directed education.
