Anatomical Pathologist

The role entails the responsibility of overseeing various operational laboratory activities, which includes coordinating and providing scientific and technical training, continuously reviewing and developing laboratory practices, ensuring adherence to operational standards and procedures, maintaining quality standards, and driving continuous process improvement.
 
Responsibilities

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree or higher in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification from a recognized tertiary institution, with relevant subjects related to pathology.
  • Show demonstrated knowledge and experience in delivering pathology services specific to the laboratory, including proficiency in using Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems, Quality Control Systems, and computer programs like Microsoft Office suite.
  • Exhibit a customer-focused approach, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate proficiently with customers, patients, clinical and laboratory staff. This includes report writing skills, statistical evaluation of scientific data, and the ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work responsibly and efficiently, managing competing priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Display the ability to work both collaboratively in a team environment and autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes. Contribute to a range of diagnostic skills relevant to the laboratory.
  • Exhibit initiative, problem-solving skills, and analytical abilities, including the capacity to apply established principles in a pathology laboratory and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environment.
  • Possess a sound understanding of legislation, policies, and requirements impacting the laboratory environment, including work health and safety and privacy requirements.
 
Skills and Requirements

  • Fully Registered Medical Practitioner with the Australian Medical Board.
  • At least 2 years full-time clinical posts following graduation from the MBBS program.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently display commitment and leadership in high-quality customer service principles.
  • Knowledge and awareness of obligations to general principles of hospital funding (eg Casemix) and maintenance of Patients Records.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake out-of-hours shift duties, in accordance with current EBA and AMA safe hours provisions.
  • Good communication skills with patients, relatives, peers and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to pursue both formal education programs and self-education.
  • Knowledge of the ethics of medical practice.
  • Demonstrate a sound basic knowledge of internal medicine and its clinical practices.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement in medical practice.
  • Knowledge of OH&S Issues and Workplace Diversity practices.
